Registered Maryland Supervisor

Raquel Carrera Adams, LCPC, LPC, NCC is a Board Certified (NBCC) Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Maryland and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the District of Columbia and Commonwealth of Virginia. She is a Board Approved Supervisor for Maryland and for Virginia Counselors In-Training. She can also provide supervision to District of Columbia LGPCs needing hours for licensure.

Raquel works collaboratively with clinicians to refine the art of listening, for what lies beneath the surface —attending not only to what clients say, but also to what remains unspoken, symbolic, or unconsciously communicated.

Raquel supervises Jessica Garratt, LGPC.

Raquel is a psychodynamic therapist and clinical supervisor who brings depth, warmth, and thoughtfulness to her work with emerging clinicians. Her commitment to the development of thoughtful, well-trained clinicians is at the heart of her supervisory work. Her approach to supervision creates space for exploring emotional undercurrents, transference and countertransference, therapeutic ruptures, and developmental themes across the lifespan.

Raquel helps clinicians deepen their therapeutic work by learning to listen with greater flexibility and nuance. She supports clinicians in developing a richer, more layered understanding of their clients and the therapeutic relationship. Supervision with Raquel offers a dedicated space to expand your skills, deepen your understanding of the therapeutic process, and develop your unique voice as a clinician in the field of clinical mental health counseling. She also helps counselors better understand systems of oppression and the interplay of culture/race in shaping individual identity, experiences, and relationships

Raquel received her Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Counseling from Johns Hopkins University and studied Psychology at Towson University. Raquel’s experience includes working with diverse populations such as children, adolescents, and adults in both school-based and community clinic settings. Her background treating young adults experiencing their first episode of psychosis (FEP) sparked the development of her empathic stance and insight into a wide range of challenges, from severe mental illness to the hazards of everyday life. Dedicated to raising the standard of care in the field, Raquel invests deeply in training new therapists. In addition to her work with pre-licensed counselors, she provides psychotherapy consultation to psychiatry residents at Howard University and teaches in the Psychoanalytic Studies Program at the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis—a two-year, post-graduate training program in psychoanalytic principles.
