Fees & Insurance

Investing in your mental health should feel clear.

We’re so glad you’ve made your mental wellness a priority.

Finding the right therapist is deeply personal. You deserve to choose someone based on the connection you feel, the expertise you need, and the kind of support that feels right for you—not simply whether their name appears on an insurance list.

Four Corners Counseling & Well-Being is an out-of-network practice, which means we do not bill insurance companies directly. Instead, you pay for your sessions at the time of service and, if your insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be able to receive reimbursement for a portion of your therapy costs.

We know the words out-of-network can make people immediately wonder, “Does that mean I have to pay for everything myself?”

Not necessarily.

Many insurance plans include out-of-network mental health benefits. Depending on your specific plan, deductible, and reimbursement rate, your insurance may cover part of the cost of therapy even though your therapist is not in-network.

More importantly, being out-of-network gives you more freedom to choose your therapist based on the things that matter most: their experience, approach, availability, personality, and whether you genuinely feel comfortable working with them.

We have intentionally chosen this model so that treatment decisions can stay focused on your needs, goals, and progress rather than the requirements of an insurance contract.

Therapy is an investment in your well-being. We want you to have clear information about that investment before you begin.

What could my insurance reimburse?

Your exact reimbursement depends on your individual insurance plan.

Some plans do not include out-of-network coverage. Others may reimburse a percentage of the amount your insurance company considers eligible after you meet your out-of-network deductible.

For example, your process may look like this:

You attend your therapy session → pay Four Corners directly → submit the session to your insurance → your insurance reimburses you according to your plan.

Four Corners can provide a superbill, which is a detailed receipt containing the information your insurance company may need to process an out-of-network claim.

You are still responsible for the full session fee at the time of service, and reimbursement is never guaranteed. However, understanding your benefits ahead of time can give you a much clearer picture of what your actual out-of-pocket cost may be.

Check your benefits before getting started

We use Mentaya to make this process easier.

Enter your insurance information to get an estimate of your out-of-network mental health benefits and potential reimbursement.

If you prefer to verify your benefits directly with your insurance company, call the Member Services number on the back of your insurance card and ask:

  • Does my plan include out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?

  • What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met?

  • Once my deductible is met, what percentage of the allowed amount will my plan reimburse?

  • Are psychotherapy services covered?

  • Do reimbursement rates vary based on the clinician’s license or credentials?

  • Do I need a referral or preauthorization?

  • How do I submit claims for reimbursement?

If your insurance representative asks for procedure codes, commonly used psychotherapy codes include 90791, 90834, 90837, and 90847.

Mentaya provides an estimate based on the information available from your insurance plan. Your insurance company makes the final determination regarding coverage, reimbursement, deductibles, and eligible services.

Our fees reflect our clinicians’ education, training, experience, and the cost of providing high-quality mental health care in the Washington, DC area.

Is out-of-network therapy right for me?

Insurance is one part of choosing a therapist, but it doesn’t have to be the only part.

For many people, finding a therapist they trust and feel comfortable with is worth considering alongside the financial investment. The right therapeutic relationship can give you a place to work through difficult experiences, better understand yourself, strengthen relationships, build coping skills, and make meaningful changes in your life.

Being out-of-network gives you the ability to consider the whole fit rather than limiting your search to the therapists included in an insurance directory.

And if cost is an important consideration, we want you to have the information you need before making that decision. Start with the Mentaya benefits checker above to see whether your insurance may help offset the cost. Reduced-fee sessions with supervised clinical interns may also be available.

You don’t have to figure out every detail before reaching out.

You can check your insurance benefits, explore our therapists, or contact our team if you have questions about finding the right fit.
